(Piperacillin & Tazobactam 2.25g /4.5g Vials)

INDICATIONS

  • Intra-Abdominal Infections (Appendicitis and Peritonitis)
  • Skin and Skin Structure Infections (Cellulitis, Cutaneous Abscess and Diabetic Foot Infections)
  • Gynaecological Infections (Postpartum Endometritis or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease)
  • Community-Acquired Lower Respiratory Tract Infections (Moderate severity only)
  • Nosocomial Pneumonia (Moderate to Severe)

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

  • Total daily dose for adults: 3.375 g every 6 hours.
  • Should be administered by slow IV infusion over 30 minutes

DURATION OF THERAPY

  • Usual duration of treatment is from 7-10 days. However, the recommended duration of therapy for treatment of Nosocomial Pneumonia is 7-14 days.
  • In all conditions, the duration of therapy should be guided by the severity of the infection and the patient's clinical and bacteriological progress.
ABDOMINAL INFECTIONS
Biliary tract infections (Cholecystitis and Cholangitis) - Empiric treatment for Hospital-acquired infections OR Patients with prior Biliary procedures OR Patients who are severely ill Piperacillin/Tazobactam 3.375 g IV Q6H
Diverticulitis - Empiric treatment for Severe infections
Secondary peritonitis/Gl perforation - Empiric treatment for Patient Severely ill or Imunosuppressed
PULMONARY INFECTIONS
Community-acquired Pneumonia in hospitalized patients-Empiric treatment when patient in the ICU; At risk for infection with Pseudomonas Piperacillin/Tazobactam 4.5 g IV Q6H PLUS Azithromycin 500 mg IV Q24H
Healthcare-acquired Pneumonia (NOT ventilator-associated) Empiric treatment for Patient with Severe illness (e.g., in or transferring to the ICU/intermediate care unit, concern for sepsis, significant oxygen requirement, multi-lobar consolidation) Piperacillin/tazobactam 4.5 g IV Q6H Vancomycin
Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) Empiric treatment for Late-onset VAP; All VAP that is not early-onset Vancomycin PLUS [Piperacillin/ Tazobactam 4.5 g IV Q6H OR Cefepime 2 g IV OR Q8H] Tobramycin
